All of the HARTZ BARN wines are sourced from the Dennistone vineyard and are a pure expression of the specific clonal selection of the drought resistant vines and the unique soil profile of the site. In keeping with its Eden Valley, Barossa regionality the site is at the higher altitude of 359 metres.

The soil and micro climatic aspects of the site that make it stand out are loam over red brown friable clay subsoils that are well structured and free draining. Warm to hot summer days associated with cool evenings facilitates the extended grape ripening period.

These differences are amplified by natural viticultural management and minimal vineyard tilling, produce the balanced and flavoursome premium wines of HARTZ BARN WINES.

HARTZ BARN range of wines is hand crafted by David and each wine shows real individuality that evolves with each vintage.

The range of HARTZ BARN wines encompasses Riesling, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Lagrein and Sparkling red wine. Each of these wines is named after a focus of the community life heritage of Moculta.

The General Store was the heart of the community, both as the source of everyday provisions but also as a social hub – an essential contributor to the sense of belonging.

The Mail Box was also at the heart of the community as an essential communication link with distant family, friends and communities.

The Black Bead refers to the exquisite black beads hand sewn to decorate the Bridal Gowns designed, created and sold from the Moculta General Store homestead.

Carriages refer to the primary mode of transport of the time that was the lifeline for maintaining supplies to the Moculta General Store.

Despite David’s respect for tradition, he continues to innovate on the journey of discovery that is fine winemaking.
